We’re in transition and seemingly the longest transition ever. Uncertainty is the only certain thing at the moment and it can have us reeling through a range of emotions. Stress is in abundance whether it is showing up as frustration, anxiety, or fear or perhaps it’s a slow drone in the background you’ve just gotten used to over the last 3-4 months.

With the hormones of stress running through the body not only are we down regulating our immune systems but also the pre-frontal cortex doesn’t function clearly. We make mistakes, we turn to outlets of numbing, have trouble sleeping and a whole pandoras box of potential dysfunction. 

As I often say, this is where the practice begins. We start with the breath, coming back to centre, returning home to the body in a way that gives us space. A safe space to explore these sensations and allow ourselves to begin to unravel. While the future may still be uncertain, we need to use our practices to slow down and look inward, so that when we return our gaze to the external again we see with better clarity and ease.

 

What to Expect

 

This three part workshop will involve a bit of lecture at the beginning of each session to discuss the workings of the nervous system in these times of stress, our need to set boundaries for our own personal well being and how yoga philosophy can be woven into our movement practice to guide us to a deeper sense of connection. We’ll continue through the rest of the session with a movement sequence and pranayama. Have a journal on hand as we'll also take time for reflection to see where we might find our tender spots.
