Through a daily immersion into the depths of Movement, Philosophy, Pranayama and Meditation, Anatomy, Chanting, Sacred Dance and more you will unfold as a practitioner, a teacher, and a yogi.
Julie Martin and Emil Wendel are forerunners in the world of modern yoga. Both are advocates of examining what the practice of Yoga really means at present. What really makes sense for us in the Yogic Philosophies and how do we utilise it. We will look into what we have learned about human movement and the importance of natural movement and exploration within an asana practice. Not only do we focus on practice, but we place an importance on the interaction and feedback of information. You will be presenting and voicing your own experiences, telling your own stories throughout the programme. Learn to integrate skills and knowledge beneficial not only for teaching but also for an advanced understanding of yoga.
Evolve your yoga
The world of yoga is evolving and in the 25 years that Julie has been practicing and teaching she has seen so much change and different diversions. New information arises and many fractions begin to present it in different ways. It’s so easy to be confused these days. “What is yoga now?” “What isn’t yoga?” There is so much to take on board and it is often overwhelming. Julie will guide you to begin to understand the evolution and focus on an embodied practice, moving away from the gymnastics that is often on offer. Bringing the practice back to the essence of what is important for us as beings, using movement that allows us to explore without the dogma that intimidates.
Julie’s passion for curiosity, questioning of the “norms”, plus a lifetime of practice led her to become a leading voice in the world of yoga. Having been brought up as a Vedantist and embracing asana later in life at 25 she learned that ultimately every practice, every scripture, every lineage was based on individuality, cultural aspects of the moment, opinion and perspective and not necessarily useful or even meant for world wide consumption. The emphasis throughout this course will be to ensure that all information becomes applicable for you as a practitioner and a teacher. Julie offers tools so that you can work directly with the sequencing, philosophy, anatomical understanding and examine all the “why’s” and “why not’s”.
There are no sacred cows here and everything needs to be questioned. There are reasons why we need to step back and look at what we inherited from the cross cultural transmission of yoga and discover what is still useful and relevant for the modern practitioner and returning to a commitment to ourselves and our motivation for being a yogi and a yoga teacher. You will experience information in your own body as well as examine it from different perspectives. We let go of right and wrong and become explorers, without an agenda, discovering the map of our bodies, minds and deeper connection to life.
What to expect
This course equals a total of 27 days. Please come prepared for 8 to 9 hours of work per day. The programme contains 262 contact hours (including evening sessions) and there is a minimum of 50 hours of pre-course homework. This residential course includes accommodation and a daily yogic diet prepared by Ayurvedic chef.

Fees include all tuition, shared accommodation at Satsanga and daily Ayurveda-inspired meals. It does not include flights, transfer to Satsanga from Goa airport or train station or costs of books for pre-homework.
This non-refundable deposit is payable once you have been accepted in order to reserve your space. The balance for the course is by before the 30 September 2018.

You will also learn to bring living philosophy into the Asana class and the importance of improvisation and creativity in teaching. Part of our curriculum will be participating in, or understanding, Puja, ritual, Seva and Bhakti in a yogic context.
About Your Teachers
Emil was born in Switzerland and has been living in Asia since the mid-seventies, studying first Chinese Classics and Taoism in Taiwan, and then Sanskrit and Indian Thought on the Subcontinent. While continuing his studies and occasionally retreating tin East Asia, India and Nepal, Emil had the privilege to come into contact with several remarkable human beings and teachings. Among them were adepts, representing different branches of Yoga. Emil remains deeply passionate about philosophy and especially it's application in Yoga. He practices and teaches Hatha Yoga, using a method of merging physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation with discussions on liberating knowledge to deepen a yoga practice beyond the mere physical experience.
Dr Rhys Beynon, RYT 500
Rhys has worked as a medical doctor since 2002 and currently works as a consultant in Emergency Medicine with specialist interest in Children's emergency medicine in a major trauma centre in London. He is also a certified yoga teacher since 2011 (RYT 500).
Rhys is fascinated by the possibilities that arise with the integration of his medical knowledge with his yoga practice. The structured anatomical and physiological knowledge that he learnt in medical school has been transformed since he has been practicing yoga. His own playful practice has allowed him to develop a deeper awareness and understanding of the body, which he is passionate to share with others.
He is also fascinated by new research involving the body and it's relationship to movement. His aim during this level 2 Teacher training is to interweave this knowledge into the programme in an interactive way - making it relevant and practical.
Julie wants you to think outside the box, get off your mat, shake up old dogmas and find freedom to unfold into the beauty of a yoga practice that emerges from the inside. With over 25 years of experience and an international following of students and teachers, Julie's greatest aim is to inspire.
