Re-patterning the body, re-patterning the mind

Through Asana, Pranayama & Meditation

Detangle old patterns and embrace new ones through asana, pranayama and meditation

I'm coming to London and I'll be offering 3 x masterclass sessions and two afternoon sessions with the fous on repatterning our body and mind.

Who we believe we are is reflected in our bodies, in our movement. Everything from how we walk into a room to whether or not we find it difficult to touch our toes.  Our patterns and belief systems play a huge roll in where and how we hold tension and resistance in the body. But also, the opposite is true. Lack of movement, having to sit at a desk all day or conversely, always running from one place to another can affect how we behave and feel about ourselves. This is the limbic brain and the nervous system at work. Essentially doing their jobs in order to survive but unless we can become aware of the process happening we can be at the mercy of the patterns, mentally, emotionally as well as physically.

What to Expect

During this weekend workshop Julie will take you through the science behind how and why we get stuck in old mental and physical patterns and how we can use our asana, pranayama and meditation to detangle the old and find new, more beneficial patterns.

Taking the science behind the limbic system in the brain and the affects it has on the nervous we will work with movement awareness to recognise when we were are met with resistance and how to negotiate, via the fascial network to send different messages between the brain and body. In addition we’ll examine how movement makes us feel. Different ways of moving and different poses and explore how they can affect our emotions or thoughts about ourselves. When we explore the unknown we open up new neural pathways.

With breath and meditation included we’ll spend the weekend unraveling the mysteries of the body and mind. Ultimately using embodied practices to continue to remain present with what arises, noticing and choosing how to react and respond in our movement and thoughts. We can break the habit of old self patterns and become the person we are truly designed to be.

This workshop is open to all abilities.

About my Masterclasses

Our yoga practice gives opportunity to let go of unwanted patterns, behaviour, stories and limitations allowing us to cultivate a relationship with our inner self.  One that becomes the most important relationship of all. Using awareness of sensation Julie will guide you to explore natural spirals, waves, pulses, expansion and contraction, integrated movement, breath and pause.  Listening without judgement to what your body has to say, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Through repetitive sequences, Julie encourages students to find their own rhythm, fluidity and strength within a movement structure. She no longer asks people to get "into" a pose, but if stillness arises then space is given for you to pause, feel and sense. Moving on only when you are ready, moving with the body not against it.

Julie’s style of flow and curiosity, a practice for all those who are tired of showing up to merely make shapes.  Join the Intelligent Rebellion and allow yourself to find a practice that feels authentic to you and your own body.

These morning classes will explore different themes throughout the entire 5 days.

About Your Teacher

Julie Martin wants you to think outside the box, get off your mat, shake up the old dogmas and find freedom to unfold into the beauty of a yoga practice that emerges from the inside. With over 25 years of experience and an international following of students and teachers alike, Julie’s greatest aim is to inspire. Her particular passion for human movement means continual investigation of new anatomical approaches, working with natural movement, range of motion, integrated stability and letting go of some of the old asana myths in order to move with the body and not against it. The practice is always an enquiry, a somatic exploration of sensation, movement and stillness.
