It can often be a struggle to be a yoga practitioner and fully understand how something we do on our mats or meditation cushions can be embraced in every moment of our lives. The question is how do we truly embody the practices and all they encompass? Our bodies are containers for all our thoughts, emotions, patterns and histories. When we can look at a cellular level we understand that there is nothing in us that is separate or unaffected by what we do, think, eat, feel.
Using the practices as means to tune into this is where we start a fully embodied relationship with yoga and ourselves.
Using Julie’s unique form of asana and movement, somatic meditation, breath work and awareness exercises the process of “doing” the practice will transform to the state being, fully present with the sense of aliveness we are looking for. These sessions will be full of curiosity and enquiry, pause and presence, stillness and movement. All practitioners welcome.

Brahmani style asana flow practice – Investigating spiral movements
The body has no straight lines in it. A spiral movement of muscle and bone makes connections through, therefore when we allow ourselves to find the natural spirals in our movement we eliminate the sensation of force or resistances. Using the asana practice as a means to find connection with the present moment we will play with pulses, spirals and waves and then find the ability to pause and remain curious in the stillness before we move on. This flow will take you through the dynamics of spiral movements in the spine and see how that allows freedom in stability as well as space in the joints.

Brahmani style asana flow practice – Investigating Fluid Core
Many practices focus on finding brute strength for stability. But the body can work much more efficiently with momentum. Strength can be gain with connection to earth that allows shifting weight and changing shape with dynamic results. Playing with animal location we find that our core stability is about moving through shapes instead of getting fixed in one. Fluidity can be strong but it doesn’t need to be rigid.

Slow Movement Investigation with Somatic Meditation Practice
We can take a meditation practice into movement that is much slower and more intimate in relationship with our emotions. We will take shorter sequences to find a few “shapes” and discover different ways to integrate them based on what feels right. Construction and deconstruction on what is useful, what is movement and when does stillness arise without effort. We can embody stillness when the awareness of the container that we occupy is the center focus. The last part of this session includes a few different styles of somatic (awareness focused) meditation techniques, some laying down, some working through the breath awareness. The entire session will be restorative in nature and allow us to let our intuitive connection from within guide us.

Brahmani style asana flow practice – Investigating the back bend in fluidity
This class will take you through preparation to find fluidity in the front of the body and support in the back of the body. Putting those elements together we give space for freedom in our backends. Struggling with back bending is common and often the struggle arises out of a need to find “the best” back bend. However, when we discover the idea of exploring movements towards a shape instead of focusing on the shape the body will follow with greater ease. We can find what is creating our resistance by negotiating with ranges of motion. This class will be great for everyone, whether back bends are comfortable for you or not.
