Vinyasa Flow Teacher Training

This 9 week, 400 hour, Level One teacher training programme is designed to be an intensive training in the basics of teaching the Brahmani Style of Vinyasa Flow Yoga. During the two months you will learn to deepen your understanding of the asanas and their alignment, develop your own practice, how to structure sequences, hands on adjustments, communication skills for teachers, yoga philosophy, anatomy and physiology, pranayama and meditation and good assisting skills. We will also be bringing in aspects of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system as a sequence and you will be practicing Ashtanga some days during the course. As well as these two dynamic forms there will also be involvement in the Hatha, Restorative and Core Flow classes.

This course has several unique aspects that you will not find in other programmes:

  • Working with several highly experienced teachers.
  • Small select group: No more than 14 participants on the course.
  • Practical work in a real class room environment with experienced teachers supervising. Not just working on other teacher trainees.
  • Emphasis on assisting / apprenticing so that you are prepared to work alongside someone once you have finished.
  • This programme gives you 400 hours of Yoga Alliance registered curriculum. You may register with YA at 200 hours after finishing this course and then continue your training for another 100 hours to make up to 500 Registered level.

Vinyasa Flow Teacher TrainingThis course is 400 hours of intensive practice and teaching skills over 9 weeks. You will be working about 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Saturdays are ½ days and most Sundays are completely free. There is also 50 hours of pre-homework that must be completed before the course starts (handed out once accepted on the course). Teaching yoga and maintaining a practice involves a lot of hard work and discipline and this course is designed to give you a foundation reflecting that. It is important you understand this is not a “yoga holiday” or a “retreat” before you apply.

All the teachers at Brahmani Yoga are dedicated to teaching WELL and SAFELY and therefore do not believe you can do a month or so of training and be prepared to go out and teach WELL. Teaching is a vocation so we look at the level one course as your starting point. On this course we will establish the basics of teaching, communication, adjustments, sequencing, anatomy & physiology, yoga philosophy, pranayama & meditation and all aspects of yoga to give you a solid foundation. All the teachers at Brahmani Yoga are dedicated to teaching WELL and SAFELY... You will be exploring all these topics on a personal level as well as for teaching purposes.

Brahmani Yoga also believes that many forms of yoga are beneficial and therefore you will be participating in all of the daily public classes at Brahmani to gain a well rounded understanding of asana practice.

There are non-contact hours included on this course. Most of these hours must be completed as pre-homework which consists of reading and report writing as well as some practical exercises to give you a good preparation and a look at what we will be working on. The homework will be sent to you once you have been accepted on the course and must be completed before the course starts.

We also put an emphasis on assisting/apprenticing once you have finished the course. There is so much valuable experience to be gained working alongside knowledgeable teachers for an extended period of time that you cannot attain by attending a course. By the end of the course you will be confident in assisting and will also have a foundation for teaching beginners and general level classes. For those of you who already teach it will fine tune your skills and allow you an opportunity to delve deeper into your understanding of teaching.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Teacher TrainingThis 9 week teacher training programme is designed to be an intensive training in the basics of teaching yoga with an emphasis on assisting/apprenticing a senior teacher after completion of the course. Our focus will be working with Ashtanga Vinyasa method, but there will also be a lot of involvement in the Vinyasa Flow, Hatha and Restorative classes.

At Brahmani we believe that all forms of yoga are valid and while it is important to do training in one structure in order to understand it and teach it well, it is also equally important to expose the body and mind to the other forms in order to have a more individual practice. This also enables you as a teacher to have background knowledge of different ways of working that may suit particular students outside the realm of Ashtanga Vinyasa.

This course has several unique aspects that you will not find in other programmes:

  • Working with several highly experienced teachers.

NEW! Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training Course 2012

This new Yoga Alliance registered teacher training course is designed specifically for teaching yoga to women throughout every phase of pregnancy, labour, childbirth and the postpartum period.

Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training
Director
Jodi Boone

Corinna Stahlhofen
  • 19 - 29 January, 2012

We are offering a new Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training Program for the 2012 season. This 90-hour intensive training is designed for experienced teachers who have completed a Level I Yoga Teacher Training, as well as for experienced childbirth educators, doulas, midwives and other pregnancy health professionals with a committed yoga practice.

Importance of Prenatal Yoga

Assisted BalansanaYoga offers tremendous benefits to women through every phase of pregnancy, labor and childbirth and throughout the postpartum period. It is even recommended for women before conception to prepare their bodies and minds for conceiving a baby, as well as for helping to increase fertility.

As practitioners and teachers, we know that yoga offers numerous benefits to everyone who practices, including reducing stress, increasing and maintaining our physical health and helping our minds to remain centered and calm. Yoga also offers a beautiful opportunity for pregnant women to connect more deeply with themselves and their unborn babies.

During pregnancy, women experience many changes physically, emotionally and mentally. On the physical level, yoga helps women to build and maintain their strength, stamina and flexibility – helping to prepare her for the often long and exhausting process of labor. In addition, a woman can experience many discomforts as her body changes to accommodate her growing baby, and these can often be alleviated through yoga. Because of the hormonal changes taking place, women can feel very emotional. Practicing yoga helps to balance the endocrine system, giving practitioners an overall sense of well-being. On the mental level, women often experience feelings of anxiety when thinking about labor and childbirth. The meditative aspects of yoga learned on the mat can be applied off the mat, helping to calm the mind when anxiety-producing thoughts arise.

By practicing yoga throughout her pregnancy, a woman is also preparing for labor and childbirth. The strength gained through yoga asana will help her to endure the physical demands of labor. Yoga’s breath awareness and pranayama techniques can also be used as coping mechanisms during and between contractions. Integrating yoga’s meditative practices can encourage a woman to stay present. Being present allows her to work with her body, breath and baby during labor, which can help labor to progress, decreasing the possibility of dystocia (a slow or difficult labor).

2-Week Sequencing And Teaching Skills with Julie Martin 2012

Director
Julie Martin E-RYT 500
  • 5–16 March 2012

This workshop/training is designed for teachers who have already completed at least a 200 hours teacher training course and are looking to enhance their skills and learn to sequence with creativity and integrity.

Julie Martin of Brahmani Yoga is renown for her sequencing structure in her lively vinyasa flow classes. This two week course will cover the basic structure of how to sequence, using themes and developing an understanding of how and why certain postures and use of repetition work together to produce alignment and freedom in the body. We will also look at our skills as teachers in order to communicate and deliver information organically with integrity to hold space for the students.

Julie Martin: is the Director of Brahmani Yoga in Goa, India and an internationally recognized teacher of both Vinyasa Flow and Ashtanga Yoga. Julie moved to Goa in 2003, and set up Brahmani Yoga - now one of the leading yoga centres in Goa. She has been teaching for over 14 years and has been running highly respected training programmes at Brahmani for the last 6 years.

Starting her career as a professional dancer in Los Angeles, Julie has always been fascinated with the workings of the body and how the relationships between movement and stillness, asana and meditation allow us to discover where our yoga truly happens. Her emphasis in leading classes and workshops is on bringing awareness to the individual. Importance is always placed on playing with structures in order to find how each student can allow their own practice to unfold.
