Open/Ashtanga Self Practice
Monday to Friday, 7:30 amThis class is open to ALL FORMS of Yoga, whether it be Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, Iyengar or whatever your personal practice is. At Brahmani Yoga we believe that all forms of yoga are relevant and all our teachers are trained to correct and adjust at all levels for all practises. Individual adjustments and corrections by the senior teachers will be given. Not suitable for complete beginners. Classes last up to 2 hours but you can finish whenever you want. Julie Martin and Melanie Cooper will be leading this class throughout the season.
Ashatanga Led Primary Series
Tuesday and Thursday 9.45 am, and Saturday 7.30 amA led Ashtanga class, with the teacher calling out the asanas. This class will flow through the entire Primary Series with corrections and some adjustments. Not suitable for beginners. You can stop whenever you want, so it is suitable for Improvers. This class will be led by Ashley Bond throughout the season.
Ashtanga Improvers
Tuesday and Thursday, 9.45 amThis class is designed for students who have experience with the primary series but do not feel completely comfortable attending either the Led Primary or the Mysore classes. Within these sessions the teacher will usually take students at least half way through the series and allow for questions regarding difficulties with postures, etc, in order to give you more confidence with your practise. This class will be led by Joanne Tchortov throughout the season.
Ashtanga Beginners
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9.45 amThis class is designed for complete beginners with little or no experience of yoga or Ashtanga. You will learn the breathing and other techniques used in Ashtanga as well as getting a good introduction to the Primary Series. If you have done a little yoga but feel rusty, we recommend that you start here - you can quickly progress to another class. This class will be lead by Anna Smallwood throughout the season.
Vinyasa Flow Intermediate
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 9.45 amIn these classes Julie Martin will take you through different flowing sequences every time. There is a lot of emphasis on personal freedom within the instructions and Julie's philosophy is to guide you to make the practice about yourself. Each class will have a start, middle and finishing sequence and will include a wide range of asanas. Not suitable for absolute beginners. (In February and March Rachel Hull will be teaching on Mondays.)
Vinyasa Flow Beginners
Tuesday and Thursday, 8:00 amThis class is suitable for complete beginners to any form of yoga. You will be taught working with the breath and the basic postures as well as linking them together in flowing sequences. This class will mostly be taught by Jaya Jaks.
Dynamic Yoga general level
Monday and Wednesday, 5:00pmThis class links the postures practiced in a regular asana class together in a "flow", creating a more dynamic class, emphasizing movement with breath and alignment of mind and body. This class is suitable for all levels and will be taught by Anna Smallwood and Joanne Tchortov throughout the season.
Hatha Yoga (Scaravelli Based)
Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 8:00 amThis general level class will focus on the technique designed by the legendary Yoga master Vanda Scaravelli. Throughout the season we have some wonderful teachers trained in the Scaravelli principles: Helen Noakes will be teaching Nov-Feb and Liz Warrington will be teaching in March.
Pranayama Meditation
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays, 5.30 pmThis class is a favourite of all the Brahmani Yoga teachers as well as visiting students. It starts with 30-40 minutes of asanas and leads into pranayama exercises with meditation and some kriya work. In December and January the wonderful Emil Wendel will be leading these classes (expect class to last 2 hours!). During the months of Nov, Feb, March the class will be led by Julie Martin and Melanie Cooper, both long term students of Emil's who will teach the same style.
Restorative Yoga
Wednesday 5.30pm & Saturday, 9.45 amSuitable for all levels of ability. The asanas in this class will focus on restorative postures and relaxation. Simple exercises and postures to help in self awareness, strengthening and relaxing our body, relieving stress and bringing healing to the body, mind and self. Gentle, yet of immense benefit to all. There will be guided relaxation that will help us feel the importance of true, deep relaxation to our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.
